Free Crochet Scarf Pattern

Here’s another free crochet pattern for you all to try!

This simple scarf can be made in a solid colour or striped, like I made it. I used up a bunch of ends of worsted weight yarn in coordinating colours. You can use as many colours as you like, and vary the width of the stripes as well. It’s up to you, be creative and have fun 🙂

•Size I/5.5mm crochet hook

•Worsted weight yarn (equivalent of 2 100g balls)

•Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Skill level

5” wide x 63” long

These are the measurements as shown in the photo. You can adjust the width and/or length to your taste.

Foundation Row: Using first colour, ch 23.

Note: For a wider scarf, use a longer chain and for a narrower scarf, use a shorter chain making sure to always use an odd number of ch sts.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * sc in next ch, ch 1, sk next ch, rep from * to last ch, sc in last ch. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: Sc in 1st st. *sc in next ch1 sp, ch 1, sk next sc, rep from * to last st, sc in last st. Ch1 and turn.

Changing colours as you go, rep row 2 until scarf is desired length. Fasten off and weave in ends. In the scarf shown in the photos. I worked 8 rows of each colour.

I’ve also listed a pattern for a different scarf in my Etsy shop. This one is made using two strands of yarn held together and has nice textured stitching. It can be purchased here.

Love the scarf! New to crocheting. How do you switch the colors?

  2. Love the scarf. Did you realize that there is an error in the instructions for row 2? You left out doing the ch1 space.
